DOVE ISLAND LODGE GENERAL INFO
Leaving early each day on one of our fully outfitted sportfishing boats, we whisk you to the hotspots returning each evening to the comfort of Dove Island Lodge.

Sitka is home to some of the best fishing in the world. And Dove Island Lodged is the best in town! Sitka has one of the best catch rates in the world for King Salmon, the largest of the Pacific salmon. May and June are the best times to catch Kings, but they and other salmon species are plentiful all year round. Typical King Salmon, or "Chinooks," weigh between 15 and 40 pounds, but  can reach up to 70 pounds. If you are flying to Sitka, you can see some of these huge fish mounted in the airport terminal. Silver Salmon, also called Cohos, are at their peak between July and September. The daily bag limit for Silvers is 6 per person.

Our DeHaviland Beaver is a very important part of the offering at Dove Island. This aircraft was built in Canada and was designed to do one thing: fly heavy loads out of short airstrips or short water takeoffs. It is often referred to by Alaskan and Canadian bush pilots as "the best bush plane ever built."

This aircraft gives the flexibility to haul up to eight people to remote lakes that are not accessible by boat. Most likely, the only company you will have on these trips will be bears, bald eagles and other wildlife. Guests will have the opportunity to fish with either fly or conventional tackle, as well as hunt for black or brown bear, moose, Sitka blacktail deer, and sheep.

You are going to catch a lot of fish at Dove Island Lodge. What do you do now that you have a 200-pound halibut and several nice Kings? Dove Island  Lodge offers quality custom processing with state-of-the-art vacuum sealing, which allows you to get the most out of your catch. Options include fresh, frozen, and smoked preparation that is included in our fishing package.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES AT DOVE ISLAND LODGE

With the float plane and yacht at the ready, Dove Island Lodge is the one option in Sitka that gives the non-angler some choices. Fly-Out packages offer wildlife and scenic viewing that are second to none. The town of Sitka offers about a day of browsing, then it's time to fish. If you like solitude and a good book, the lodge can be a fine place to lounge around. Hiking can be done once you've decided to fly out, but the island is pretty small. You can see it all in less than an hour. The lodge also offers satellite TV and wireless internet connection at no additional charge.

DOVE ISLAND LODGE SEASON
The fishing season runs from May to September and starts and ends based on weather conditions. The Chinook (King) Salmon is the early target and the Coho (Silver) Salmon is the August and September target. Halibut are present all season with the peak for the big "barn-door" sized being Mid-July. The steelhead season is short -- April 15 - May 30.
