Harrison Homestead, Yellowstone River

Details

As the name indicates, the Harrison Homestead enjoys a rich history which has prompted is placement on the National Register of Historic Places. The Harrison house was built in 1883 just across the Yellowstone River from the Crow Reservation. Homesteaders' journals talk of the original settlers exchanging shots with Crow Indians riding on the other side of the river.

The home is perfectly suited for a lodge. The rooms are large, charming and authentically re-furbished. Each room comfortably accommodates two anglers. The dining room and living room are both comfortable and well furnished with pieces from the era.

The lodge capacity is six anglers, and they encourage parties to consider occupying the entire lodge for the week. Their private chef is able to deliver professional meals to suit fishermen's tastes. The cuisine will leave nothing to be desired. Fresh baked bread, pastries and rolls compliment meals that highlight creatively prepared local beef, seafood, and garden fresh vegetables. The high repeat rate among their clients has made this a wonderful place to guide. We look forward to seeing the familiar faces year after year. Please call early on the Harrison Homestead, as it is one of their smallest and most popular programs. The openings and dates are limited and fill quickly.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIESAlthought I would not recommend the non-trout-fly-angling crowd for this destination, photography, hiking, mountain biking, bass fishing at the two ponds on the ranch, and eating (it feels like it deserves its own heading) are all available for the non-trout anglers and non-anglers.

SEASON
The prime season for the yellowstone is pretty much April until "ice-out" which can be anywhere from April 15 to May 20 depending on the year until the weather in October becomes too cold for normal people. There are plenty of people who fish in the colder months, but they are an unusual bunch. I know because I have been known to mingle with the type. When the rivers come back into shape in June the fishing is great all summer long. August is hopper time which can be great for surface fishing enthusiasts.

HOW TO GET THERE
Just drive or fly to Bozeman, Billings, or Livingston. Take Hwy 90 to the ranch. Driving directions will be given at time of booking. The homestead is located about halfway between Livingston and Billings on the Yellowstone River.
