GENERAL INFORMATION FOR RUBY SPRINGS LODGE
You wake up to a gentle “Good morning”
and the smell of strong coffee seeping under your cabin door. Outside a
basket awaits with a steaming carafe and fresh squeezed juice. The
sun’s orange rays soak the craggy mountains, and a meadowlark sings
brashly from an unseen fencepost just downstream. You think back on
last night, alive with conversation over Montana-raised rack of lamb
and a nice Oregon Pinot Noir, as you stand by the window and scan the
river for rising trout-a peaceful preface to an exhilarating day out on
the water. How can something as simple as this feel so necessary…
Each of the six private cabins is set a few yards from the meandering Ruby River
Cabin
amenities include optional king or twin beds facing a fireplace within
a large, open floor plan, a bright and inviting full bath, oversized
tubs and heated tile floors and a screened porch. Gourmet
breakfasts and dinners are served in the stunning main lodge, with
several original entrée options to choose from each day.
Lunch is
prepared streamside by your fishing guide, and each evening cocktails
and hors d’oeuvres are enjoyed in the River Room overlooking the Ruby. The
Tobacco Root Cabin is designed for the angler who would like more
spacious accomodations. It features a master bedroom with two private
bathrooms, a comfortable living area with river rock fireplace, wet
bar, and screened porch.
Many of our guests plan a
late afternoon arrival on their check-in day. This allows plenty of
time to settle in, relax, or even spend a few hour fishing the Ruby.
Each evening of your stay begins with a cocktail and appetizer hour in
the River Room at the lodge. This is a time to exchange stories with
other guests, unwind after an exciting day on the river, or talk with
your hosts (John & Krista, or Paul & Jeanne) about plans for
the next day's fishing. Following cocktail hour, guests are treated to
a gourmet dinner complete with an appropriate wine selection from our
cellar. Each morning, we personally-deliver a wake-up basket filled
with coffee, tea, or juice. When you are ready to greet the day, stroll
down the boardwalk to enjoy a hearty, cooked-to-order Montana
breakfast. For lunch, you will either experience a delicious streamside
picnic on one of our nearby blue-ribbon float trip fisheries—or you
will enjoy a day wading our private access, taking a break back at the
lodge for an expertly-prepared patio lunch.
Breakfast and the lodge's wonderful
amenities become a faint memory as the driftbat pulls free of the shore
and your first cast unrolls above the chilly water. Your guide has you
out on the Big Hole today, throwing caddis at the shaded banks that
slide by. Without this incredible scenery and silence, fishing just
wouldn't be as enthralling as it is—but then again, really good wild
trout fishing is a vital part of the mix too. You release another
wide-bodied brown, taking a moment to relish the blue sky against the
canyon walls. Days like this are meant to pass as slowly as possible...

Gratuity Guidelines
Many of our guests have questions about the proper procedure for
tipping at Ruby Springs. Please use the following as a guideline for
what you feel is appropriate. We employ a tip pool that's shared by the
entire lodge staff because everyone here plays a critical role in
ensuring your experience is positive. Most of our guests choose to put
8% of their total bill toward this tip pool, which can be included in
the final bill upon check-out. Additionally, fishing guides receive an
average of $50-$100 per day for each guided trip (1 or 2 anglers), and
the guides prefer cash or personal check. You can tip your guide at the
end of the day, or the end of your stay – whatever's most convenient
for you. And remember, these are simply guidelines, and you should tip
what you feel is appropriate. And please let us know if there’s
anything special that we can do to enhance your stay.
